DON'T FORGET ME!!!

So hey there friends and fans. Sorry nothing has been put on here in a while, but I have been super busy trying to donate alot of extra time to my childs school. I don't know how many of you are familiar with Baldwin County or our economic situation here, but insanely enough, our schools are funded by sales taxes, and not property taxes like almost everyone else, so with the economy being what it is, we have seen a major decrease in revenue and with that have lost alot of valuable support staff at our local schools. We need volunteers more than ever and as much help as we can get. Not to put Double Layer Designs on the back burner, but things were pretty slow for the month of September, so I thought that would be a good time to give alot of time to our local school. I did however make a great rockstar cake for my son's class Grandparents Day celebration and will be working hard on some great Halloween goodies for the teachers and students. I do have alot of pics that aren't downloaded off of my camera yet. Can't yall tell I am horrible at that, anyway, I will try and get better! But for now, don't forget about us and don't forget to check out Announcing Moments. Their website is up and running and working hard to create my kids birthday invites to match their custom cake and cupcakes they will be having at their party. I am sure they would love to do the same for you, so check them out people!! LOVE,
DLD

News From the Kitchen

Well, I know I am not adding a picture to this particular post, simply because I haven't gotten them off of my camera yet, so I decided this would be a good opportunity to share some things that are happening with Double Layer Designs and just blog a little. This is a very exciting time for us and we are still getting orders here and there. Despite a little competition moving into our area, which was bound to happen as it is under served with delicious delights, we are still staying positive. Look for some new business cards out and about, as well as some samples being carried at local boutiques. This week is shaping up to be very busy as I have a number of yummy projects I am trying to accomplish, of which the most important is my hubby's super secret 30th birthday party. I am creating a cake for him which I hope will be a showstopper at the party. I am also making pops for the guests, as well as an order for pops for a brand new client. So a busy little baker I will be when I am not carting kids to and from dance and watching our oldest son play his first football game ever, which we are totally stoked about. We always have time for our clients though, and one other mention I will make to you is to check out a new biz that I have fell in love with and can work together with on your special event, Announcing Moments. The website will have its grand opening on October 1st and they also have a blog at announcingmoments@blogspot.com. Their products are fabulous and totally personal, and customer service is second to none. I will gladly match your events sweets to your invitations, announcements, or photo cards and offer a 10% discount on them in conjunction with an announcing moments order. Email us today at doublelayerdesigns@gmail.com to start your custom coordinating of invites from announcing moments and tasty treats by Double Layer Designs all for a great price.

Caroline and Hunny!

So this was a very specially requested birthday cake for my cousins daughter Caroline. When her mother asked her what she wanted on her cake, her reply was point blank, " a girl swinging from a tree". So with that challenge came this cake. Complete with an exact replica acurate down to collar and coat color of her own dog, Hunny Bucks.I think the dog amazed her more than herself swinging from a tree on a vine, which is very hard to see in this picture. The figures and the tree are made of fondant glued together with a little royal icing. After a long day of playing outside on the water slide and running around the yard, all the kids were definately ready for some cake and ice cream, and considering the humidity of mid July in Alabama this cake held up remarkably well all day long. Thanks for checking out our blog and look for some new baby shower and birthday party cakes and cakepops soon!

Happy Birthday Uncle T!!

So I know it has been a while since I last posted something, but my camera was at the doctor having surgery. It has made a full recovery and is now ready to upload away!! This is a cake I made for my brothers birthday a while back. He has a guitar that looks exactly like this right down to the white symbol on the dark brown part. I snuck a pic on my hubby's fabulous I-phone one day when he was at the house playing and used it as a reference. It is difficult to see in this picture but my special little touch for him was adding his name under the strings where the notes are, like a county music star's guitar would be. He loved this cake and my entire family could not believe how closely it resembled his actual guitar. This was his 20th birthday and his comment at the end of the party was, "I can't wait to see what my 21st birthday cake will look like!" We'll see buddy, we'll see!!

Busy Bee!!

I know it has been a while since I posted something, but I have been a little busy! I had an out of town trip on the weekend after Father's day and then right into a busy 4th. Made some cute cake pops for that and am currently right in the middle of a birthday cake project for my cousin. I will have pics posted of some of this stuff as soon as possible. My camera has been at the doctor. It was sick but will be better soon!! Until then, happy caking!!

Hole in 1!

On Father's Day, we hosted my Father in law, my Brother in law and a few other fathers and their families over at our house for a get together. I didn't want to make a cake specifically for my husband and not anyone else, so I had almost decided not to make one at all. But when I woke up that morning I knew we would be makeing homeade ice cream that day and I just kept thinking that we would need a little cake to! ( If you haven't heard, cake goes with everything!!) Well I had about 2 hours to make a cake before all the guests arrived, so this is the result of a quickly baked and decorated Father's day cake. All of the dads we had over all play golf when they have free time that hasn't been scheduled to the max by their lovely wives, (so you can imagine that is almost never) but none the less they try and make it out for a game together once every couple of months, so I thought since they all played golf, that a golf cake would be cute! My brother in law said I should have just made the whole thing a sand trap since that is where they all spend most of their time, but I have faith in them! The writing is actually small little balls meant to be golf balls as well as the trim around the cake. We ended up having a great day and yesterday when I got home from work, I went to the cake saver, and do you guys know there wasn't one piece left! I guess the cake really was a hole in 1!!
